Honoree: Dr. Glen Ehrenman

Dr. Glen Ehrenman is a partner in Ehrenman and Khan Pediatric Dentistry and a Diplomate of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry. Dr. Ehrenman, and his partner Dr. Mahnaz Khan, provide comprehensive dental treatment to children, adolescents, and special needs patients from across Nassau and Suffolk counties. Dr. Ehrenman and his team have extensive training and experience in managing patients on the Autism spectrum.

Dr. Ehrenman received his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree form S.U.N.Y. at Stony Brook School of Dental Medicine in 1985. He completed the University of Rochester’s Eastman Dental Center Residency in Pediatric Dentistry in 1987; this two-year program provided specialty training in behavior management, sedation, and hospital dentistry for the special needs patient. Later that year he joined his current dental practice as an associate, a practice that was founded in 1969. Dr. Ehrenman maintains surgical privileges at NYU-Winthrop University Hospital, Stony Brook University Hospital, and Northwell Health-Syosset Hospital. He is a member of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, the American Dental Association, the New York State Dental Association, and the Nassau County Dental Society.

Dr. Ehrenman is recognized across Long Island for his commitment to the oral health care of autistic and other special needs patients. He believes dental treatment for the autistic patient must be tailored to the physical and emotional needs of the patient. He has raised funds for Autism Speaks, lectured to the Down Syndrome Advocacy Foundation of Suffolk County, and participated in The Viscardi Center’s Project Accessible Oral Health Initiative’s “Take A Dental Health Day”. Dr. Ehrenman believes that with the knowledge that autism is the fastest growing developmental disability, educating and training new dentists on how to provide dental treatment for these patients is critical. To support those efforts, Dr. Ehrenman is a Clinical Associate Professor at both Stony Brook School of Dental Medicine and NYU-Winthrop Hospital Dept of Dental Medicine.

Glen lives in Dix Hills with his wife Kelly. They have two adult children, Marc and Alexandra. He credits his mother, Phyllis who was an elementary resource room teacher for challenged students, with introducing him to the needs of autistic children and their families. Helping children with special needs is indeed a family affair, as his sister Alisa has been a special education teacher for 34 years. Dr. Ehrenman not only finds treating and raising awareness for autistic patients rewarding, but his efforts are rooted in the strong belief that autistic patients should have access to quality oral health care that is tailored to their unique needs.
